Aged seriograph icon crafted in canvas on wood, with wooden frame and gold leaf plated. The halo of the image is silver plated locally gilded. With this icon you will receive a free stand. One of the most impressive ascetic depictions of Christ’s figure is the one being was elaborated in the first half of the 6th century depicting Christ as Pantocrator (Almighty) at the Monastery of Saint Catherine, of Sinai. The technique of the icon is referred as encaustic because the painting pigment was mixed with wax, or wax and resin and for its application a hot iron or other tool was used. In the icon, Christ’s features are depicted with a slight asymmetry of the eyes that symbolize His timeless entity influenced by the Fayum technique, whereas the shades of the skin and the emitted light accentuate the non-human nature of Christ. The copy of the icon of Christ Pantocrator at the Monastery of Sinai brings closer the face of Christ emphasizing the radiance of His skin and the expression of the eyes.
